Single Origin Coffee - Kianjiru - Kenya

Back to Coffee

Rooted in the lush, high-altitude landscape of the Gichugu constituency, the Kianjiru Factory stands as a testament to the enduring coffee heritage of Kirinyaga County. Located on the southern slopes of Mt. Kenya, roughly 100km northeast of Nairobi, the factory is a cornerstone of the Baragwi Farmers Cooperative Society. Since its establishment in 1953, the cooperative has grown into an outstanding community of approximately 11,800 active farmers across 12 different washing stations. This area is characterised by its red volcanic soils, making it mineral-rich and ideal for coffee plants to thrive. The local climate also contributes to quality coffee potential thanks to the cool temperatures and steady rainfall. These combined features allow the coffee profiles in this area to be so exceptionally complex and unique.
